Here is how the company actually started, and how it ended up doing only one thing.

Augusta Grass Masters started in 2009 as a mowing business. Zac Bradford was a career firefighter looking for a way to supplement a public safety income, and cutting grass was the way in.

About a year later he added fertilization and weed control, and it changed the business. He went through a program at the University of Georgia, passed the base coursework, and added specialty courses over the years that followed.

Around five years in he made the decision the company still runs on today: he sold off the entire maintenance and landscape installation side of the business and kept only fertilization and weed control. It has been the only thing we do ever since.

In 2026 Zac retired from public safety for the second time, and he is not going back. That means more availability rather than less. He is around Monday through Friday, and he still takes calls on his cell phone on weekends.

It is still the two of us

Zac and his wife run the company. When you call, one of them answers the phone.

There is no 1-800 number on the side of our trucks. There is no answering service and no call center. We do not outsource our inbound calls, and we do not intend to. If we miss you, we are the ones listening to the message and calling you back.

Every one of our customers has Zac’s cell phone number.

What has changed, and what has not

Ten years ago this was one unlettered truck, routing done with pen and paper, and no way to take a credit card. Today there are two full-time trucks and a part-time truck, industry software handling the routing and the outbound communication, and card payment is the only payment we take.

The back office changed completely. The part where you call and a person who owns the company answers has not changed at all, and that is deliberate.

We are not the cheapest, and we do not intend to be

Our work is for people who want it done right: the right product, at the right time, at a fair price.

Every property gets walked before anything comes off the truck. A lawn that is mowed weekly and a lawn that is mowed every other week need different programs, and we would rather know that before we treat it than after.

If the lowest price is the only thing that matters, we are probably not the right company for you. A fair number of people who go with the cheapest bid call us back down the road.

Some of the customers who signed up with us in 2009 are still with us today.
